Welcome to Hope Ranch

Known for its ranch-style homes, sprawling equestrian estates, and an extensive network of bridle paths, dramatic palms grace its major streets. This exclusive 2000-acre private enclave hosts some 700 homes nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Barbara.

The first private owner of this land was Lt. Narciso Fabregat of the Santa Barbara Presidio, who received the grant from Governor Manuel Micheltorena in 1843. But they named Hope Ranch after Thomas Hope. Hope moved to Santa Barbara in 1849, acquiring the land 1861 for an expansive sheep ranching operation, where he built a two-story home on the property. The ranching business thrived, Thomas Hope becoming one of the wealthiest men in the country. Upon his death, they divided his landed in two parts—half going to his widow, the other half to his six children.

Today, seaside villas grace its coastline, along with the 20 miles of riding trails, polo, soccer, and baseball fields, where its residents enjoy access to a private beach. Hope Ranch also offers exclusive membership at La Cumbre Golf and Country Club, with a variety of golf, tennis and general memberships available—something for everyone. Hope Ranch very own Upper and Middle School belongs to the prestigious college-preparatory Laguna Blanca School, founded in 1933.

Located nearby are the Earl Warren Showgrounds, home to world-class equestrian events and the shopping, dining, cultural and recreational amenities of Santa Barbara. With its outdoor beach and equestrian lifestyle, Hope Ranch feels like a getaway, every day.
